The court handed down a verdict in the case of Karim Massimov, the correspondent reports Tengrinews.kz. The information was reported in the press service of the Astana court.
The verdict on the criminal case against the former chairman of the National Security Committee Karim Massimov and his deputies: Anuar Sadykulov, Daulet Ergozhin and Marat Osipov was announced in the Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Astana in their presence. The case was considered by the court under the heading «Top secret».
The court found Karim Massimov guilty under part 1 of Article 175 («High treason»), part 3 of Article 179 («Violent seizure of power»), paragraph 3 of part 4 of Article 362 («Abuse of power and official powers) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
»By partial addition of punishments finally Karim Massimov has been sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property with life deprivation of the right to hold positions in the civil service," the press service of the Astana court reported.
By a court decision, the former head of the KNB, Karim Massimov, was stripped of the rank of general and state awards.
Recall that the trial against the ex-head of the KNB Karim Massimov and his deputies began in November last year in closed mode.
In August last year, the National Security Committee officially announced the completion of the investigation of the criminal case against Masimov, Sadykulov, Ergozhin, Osipov and officials — Akipov and Bekmurat.
Karim Massimov has been under arrest since January 2022.
Prosecutor General: Massimov and Sadykulov gave orders to leave the buildings of the DKNB
Earlier, Prosecutor General Berik Asylov said that the former chairman of the National Security Committee and his ex-deputy during the January events ordered employees to leave the buildings of departments.
«At the peak of the riots, almost the entire personnel of the departments of the National Security Committee of Almaty, Almaty and Kyzylorda regions left their buildings.
According to the investigation, on January 5, 2022, a written instruction was received from the deputy chairman of the KNB Sadykulov about the readiness of the personnel to leave the building. On Masimov's instructions, they left the buildings of the DKNB in Almaty and the Kyzylorda region. Also, at the command of the leadership, the buildings of the police departments of Almaty and Zhambyl regions were abandoned,» Asylov said earlier at a meeting of the Majilis.
According to the Prosecutor General, then, as a result of such actions, timely measures were not taken to stop the riots. Almaty and Taldykorgan were completely at the mercy of armed bandits for two days, Berik Asylov said earlier.
