Finnish language textbook - A.G. Morozova, 1982, Petrozavodsk, Karelia, 3rd edition, hard cover, with b/w drawings and tables, page: 264, format: 205 x 147 mm, circulation: 15,000 copies. Condition: excellent!

This "Finnish Language Textbook" is intended for a wide range of people who want to learn how to read, understand and speak Finnish. It can be used both for classroom lessons under the guidance of a teacher, and for independent work. The textbook is designed for approximately 200 classroom hours.

The entire composition of the textbook, consisting of an introduction, a lecture part (texts), a grammar guide and an alphabetic dictionary, is subject to the target setting.

The introduction introduces the reader to the rules for pronunciation of individual sounds and sound combinations of the Finnish language, with spelling, the principles of composition and some differences in pronunciation, compared with writing (see § 22 of the introduction).

For greater clarity, the introduction contains 18 drawings depicting the position of the speech organs during the articulation of Finnish and some corresponding Russian sounds. To consolidate the correct pronunciation skills outlined in the introduction, the exercises after each paragraph serve.

The words in the phonetics exercises from the introduction section are not intended for memorization, but only for the correct articulation and pronunciation of the sounds in question.

The main part of the textbook (lecture course) consists of 21 lectures, each of which includes 4-5 paragraphs devoted to a separate language phenomenon, followed by grammar exercises to consolidate the material presented. Before each paragraph, the formation of the grammatical form is indicated in the form of a table, to which the text following it is devoted.

The lecture part of the textbook begins with simple sentences like: Tata on... (This is...). Mika tama on? (What is it?), etc. The presentation of the material is aimed at giving students practical skills without excessive theorizing. This explains the fact that in the lecture part only schemes of individual grammatical forms are given, and a verbal explanation (grammar) is placed at the end of the textbook. The grammar reference is provided with summary tables.
