If an insect flies over the water, then the lalius freezes, waits, and when the moment comes, spits out a trickle of water and swallows the fallen fly or mosquito. Individuals grow about 7 cm in length (females are smaller). They have a flattened body on the sides. You can distinguish lalius by various signs. For example, the fins of either sex have a bright red-orange color, but in females they are rounded, while in males, on the contrary, they are sharp. Also, females have a more silvery hue and a large abdomen. These animals were discovered back in the 19th century. In the second half of the same century, they began to be used as aquarium animals. The French aquarist Pierre Carbonnier spread them throughout Europe and other countries.
