Schubert's barb (Barbus semifasciolatus "schuberti"), or lemon barb as it is also called in the west, is a small fish of the carp family. The quotation marks in the name indicate that this is an artificially bred color variation of the nominal species, which is the green barb and fixed by the American Thomas Schubert, whose name was given to this variety. The artificial origin is also confirmed by the fact that the natural populations of the Schubert barb have not yet been discovered. It is not for nothing that the green barb is called Chinese in the West. Since most of its habitat is located in southeast China, although individual populations are found in Taiwan, Vietnam and Hainan Island. Gold-colored fish were first brought to the USA and from there they got to Europe under the name of the golden barb, or Schubert barb.
