The novel “Ulpan is her name” covers the events of the late 19th and early 20th centuries taking place in a Kazakh village. These events unfold around the main character of the novel - Ulpan, a woman of extraordinary nature, clear mind, generous soul. "... all this happened, and it all passed in one day and one night." This phrase begins a new book - the novel “Ulpan is her name”, written by Gabit Musrepov, one of the founders of Kazakh Soviet literature, a writer whose works for half a century have been telling about the life of the steppe, about fundamental shifts in the historical destinies of the people. The people who inhabit G. Musrepov’s novel lived in the north of what is now Kazakhstan more than a hundred years ago, and the author’s main attention, as the title suggests, is given to a young woman of extraordinary character and unusual fate - Ulpan. Smart, strong-willed, fair, Ulpan tries to make life easier for the common people, adopts and implements all the best that she sees from the Russians. Thus, thanks to her efforts, the Sibans and Kerey-Uaks were the first to settle down. But all of Ulpan’s undertakings, supported by her husband, the influential biy Yesieniei, are met with protest from adherents of patriarchal relations. After the death of Yesieniei, Ulpan can no longer resist them, not having met understanding and sympathy from those on whose help and support she counted."...she was born before her time and left the world with the burden of unfulfilled desires and unfulfilled hopes," says the author, concluding narrative, but what moral strength is contained in the image of this simple daughter of the Kazakh people, who managed to rise far above the time in which she lived.
