William Saroyan (August 31, 1908 – May 18, 1981) was an American dramatist and author. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1940, and in 1943 won the Academy Award for Best Story for the film adaptation of his novel The Human Comedy.

Saroyan was worried about universal questions and problems, the soul of a simple, small person. He wrote in English, lively, flexible thought, accurate, accurate observations - the typical language of the American writer of the late XX century. But the worldview and attitudes of the author are the essence and spirit of the Armenian.

William's work has become a source of inspiration in cinema. So, for example, based on the motives of his play “My Heart is in the Mountains”, in 1975 at the “Armenfilm” studio, director Levon Grigoryan shot a film of the same name.
