The Ministry of Culture issued a statement against LGBT propaganda.
The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced that it will consider a petition against LGBT propaganda in the country, which has collected more than 50 thousand signatures. Information about this appeared on the official page of the Ministry in Instagram. It is noted that the petition «We are against open and hidden LGBT propaganda in Kazakhstan» is published on the e-petition portal.kz has collected enough signatures for official review. «In accordance with Article 90-4 of the Agribusiness Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan accepted the petition for consideration. In accordance with Article 90-5 of the Agribusiness Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the term of consideration of a petition is up to 40 working days from the moment of its registration. It was also mentioned that a working group will be formed with the participation of representatives of interested parties, state bodies and public organizations. The process of reviewing the petition will be conducted in accordance with the law, the Ministry says. Earlier, Vice Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Iskakov spoke about the prohibition of LGBT propaganda under the new law, while the norm on the prohibition of LGBT propaganda was not included in the bill. In February, a website for LGBT people was blocked in Kazakhstan due to violations of the law. In April 2023, Majilis deputy Ardak Nazarov at the plenary session of the chamber expressed an opinion on „the spread of LGBT ideology in Kazakhstan“, claiming that Western international organizations are behind it. Recall that in December 2022, neighboring Russia adopted a law banning LGBT propaganda, which prohibits the issuance of rental certificates for films that promote non-traditional sexual relations, gender reassignment or pedophilia.
